The Forge and Foundry Fire Starting Kit consist of a fire wick/bellows, ferro rod, and complimentary fat lighter sticks. This kit has served us well at home and the campsite. Light your charcoal grill with the fire wick without wasting lighters. The water-resistant rope fluffs and stays lit in damp conditions so its extra handy for damp conditions. Once you're finished lighting tender extinguish the wick by pulling the flame into the tube.
A 4" aluminum tube houses a 16" long waxed hemp rope the easily lights when fluffed. Remove the rope and you will have a bellows tube to get coals burning hotter.
A 3/8" x 5" ferrocium rod will supply thousands of strikes to spark your select tinder.
Packaged in a burlap bag.
We recommend using the back spine of your knife to remove the black coating where you want to create sparks. First scrape off a small amount of shavings onto your tinder without creating sparks. Once you're ready to light brace the end of the ferro rod as close as possible to the tinder. Scrape with fast controlled strokes down the rod towards the tinder. The goal is to shoot a shower of sparks onto your tinder without knocking everything over. This takes a little practice but the reward is reliable way to start a fire.
Do not leave Ferrochium rods near open heat or flames.
